Those who know me know I tend to rate breakfast based on a few factors, mainly how’s the corned beef! If it’s from a can, it’s a no starter for me. I’ve been fortunate to grace a lot of breakfast establishments. Occasionally I’m lucky to find a place that takes great pride in making their own in-house corned beef and corned beef hash. There is no substitute.
Today was one of those memorable occasions. I had what I would consider the best-corned beef ever! Period! My friends and I decided to try the newest of the “75 Restaurant” collection, 75 on Courtyard Square. Located in the ever-growing seaport district of Boston. A long-time fan of 75 on Liberty Warf, I wanted to see how this restaurant matches up.
Ascending escalators from ground level, you’re greeted by a lovely hostess bar. The staff there are friendly and welcoming. I made a reservation using OpenTable, and the hostess quickly found our reservations. We were seated at a square table along the wall of windows. The warm late morning sun was welcoming on this cold later winter day.
The dining room is open and airy. A wall of windows on one side provide plentiful natural light throughout the space. The opposite is a beautiful bar area with warm wood paneling and rich wood accents. Space is well balanced with shoulder height panels providing privacy and noise reduction for those seated in the middle of space.
We came for brunch and found an extensive menu complemented by a special St. Patrick’s Day Brunch menu. Our waitress was very friendly but honestly didn’t seem to have her full game on – making a few mistakes with our order and the bill, but all was good and made up for with her infectious pleasant personality.
After looking at the special brunch menu, I looked no further than the first option, the St. Patrick’s Day Corned Beef Hash, served with eggs (I chose scrambled with cheddar). The menu said it came with a toasted baguette and as I’m writing this, I realize it was omitted from my plate – not that I need the carbs – but would have liked to try it nonetheless.
My friends enjoyed:
The Spicy Chicken Sausages Hash it was served with three farm eggs, chose them sunny side up, sliced avocado and hollandaise sauce. It looked awesome, and I’m told tasted excellent.
The Crab Cake Eggs Benedict served on a housemaid English muffin with herbed hollandaise sauce, brunch potatoes, and breakfast sausage. The English muffins were superb a much denser version than what you’d find in a supermarket variety. My friend tells me she was a little surprised to see the poached eggs with firm rather than soft yolks, but the flavor was great!
Would I go back? I must say the original 75 on Liberty has my heart as it’s a little smaller, on the ground level, overlooking the harbor with walls of glass, and optional outdoor seating. 75 Courthouse would be a great option if 75 Liberty were too busy which sometimes they are. The food and service were excellent despite a few minor mistakes. The restaurant opened in January so I would imagine they are fine-tuning a few things. I would recommend for brunch, and I’ll try them another time for dinner.
