A creature of habit I am, passing by this place hundreds of times. I failed to notice the new Rosa Farms taking up residence in what was once a fireplace store and before that a garden shop. It was off my radar as something I just didn’t notice as I passed. My loss. I'm told Rosa Farm has been there for ten months.
Over the years in my travels I’ve always been drawn to marketplaces, Quincy Market, Boston Public Market, the former Portland Market in Portland Maine, Oxbow Public Market in Napa, CA, Inside Union Station in Washington DC, and South Street Seaport, NY. All have their unique offerings, design, and atmosphere. All rebuilt on what was often decaying buildings - reborn into thriving living organic destinations. The concept is the same, offering the customer a warm, welcoming environment to showcase the goods and foods from purveyors of the region and beyond. A place to meet others, a place to get in out of a cold or rainy day – yet feel like you’re “outside” with the fresh smells of produce, plants, foods, and goods.
Rosa Farms located on Route 53 in Hanover, MA – about a mile south of the Hanover Mall is something we didn’t know we needed. Although on a smaller scale, Rosa Farms reminds me of Boston Public Market and Oxbow Public Market. On the perimeter, there is a coffee/juice bar with fresh pastry offerings, refrigerated cases showcasing specialty and prepared foods, a pizzeria, and a deli serving up amazing salads, sandwiches, wraps, and soups. The open space has a salad bar in the middle, fresh produce, shelves of imported goods, specialty items from New England and tables for dining in options. There are refrigerated cases with unique local dairy products too. I’m sure I’ve missed something there is a lot to see.
The people working Rosa Farm are friendly and helpful. They let me know about the juice/coffee club. The deli staff helped me choose something from an extensive menu and were happy to make changes – many fresh bread and wrap options. One gentleman took a few minutes to tell me all about a unique maple syrup he was putting on display. He gave me the origin of the product telling me, it is sourced from single locations and not from say "New Hampshire" where it might be from multiple sources and would not be consistent in flavor/quality.
A part of me felt like I was in an old country store in Vermont – something I love! I’m thrilled to have discovered this place and to have it in my neighborhood – will be visiting here often. If you’re on the south shore or heading to the cape, it’s a few minutes off Route 3 just beyond the Hanover Mall – an easy on/off option.
