The Only Way to See a Movie: Showcase de Lux!

I tend to see 5-10 movies a year. I find myself going to the Showcase Randolph Theater often because they have a “Lux” level. I’ve been waiting for the new film, London Has Fallen to come out in theatres. Sometimes the movies I want to see are not shown in the “Lux” level. I was lucky this evening! I treated myself to a dinner and movie.

So why to spend more money on the “Lux” level you may ask. I have a few reasons which all go toward the enjoyment of going to a movie rather than waiting for it to come out on cable or Netflix and watch in the comfort of my living room.

A few reasons for Lux. First, you have to be 21 to sit at this level as they serve alcohol. The Lux is great as no crying babies, restless kids or teenagers. The Lux level provides waitress service right at your seat. There is a swivel table that comes from the arm – all you have to do is push a button and within a minute or two a waitress will be there to take your order. You can arrive 30 minutes before the movie, enjoy a cocktail, appetizer or get started on your dining. The seats are leather power recliners. You can purchase your ticket online and select your seat. All seats in the Lux level are reserved.

It may seem that the Lux level is too expensive, but if you compare prices for just a movie ticket, soda, and popcorn, I think you’ll find you’re ahead in the Lux section. The Lux ticket price is $24 plus $1 convenience fee for ordering online. With the Lux ticket, you get a $5 drink/food voucher. If you order a soda, it comes with free refills ($3) and the popcorn is free. So doing the math, $25 (ticket/convenience) - $5 (voucher) + 3$ (soda) + free popcorn, that’s $23. An adult ticket is $12 which would leave you $11 for food and drinks. $12 wouldn’t go far in the food court or the main lobby concessions.

Tonight in the Lux level, they had two themed cocktails for the London Has Fallen movie. I ordered the “Big Ben” – Amaretto Disaronno, Jägermeister and a splash of lemon sour mix served on the rocks. The Big Ben cocktail was so good I ordered a second one. I also ordered the Theatre burger, (yes can you belive it I ordered a burgher), a large Angus beef patty, aged cheddar cheese topped with BBQ sauce and lettuce, tomatoes and onions on the side. Served with French fries and a pickle.

A great experience. Service was better than most restaurants. At the push of a button, one of the friendly and knowledgeable waitress would arrive to assist with orders, refills or to remove empty plates and glasses. The seats are very comfortable, and the audio and video quality is excellent! I hope my taste in movies align with the theaters schedule in the Lux as they will see more of me this year.
