After my first visit for drinks with a friend, I wanted to come back and try out the food!
Waxy’s offers an extensive menu. It’s far too big to write about in this posting. I've included a link below. I plan to return and try out a few of these. Sitting at the bar, I kept my eye on the plates coming out of the kitchen. Each was presented in an upscale modern style, as Waxy’s marketing states, a “Modern Irish Bar.” The quality of the food is excellent, and everything is styled and delivered hot.
I had to go with the burger – a big surprise to anyone following me! I ordered the “Bar Burger.” The burger is an 8oz Maine Family Farms, a grass-fed ground beef burger topped with melted Irish cheddar and North Country Smokehouse thick cut bacon on a brioche bun – my favorite for burgers. It also came with fresh tomatoes and lettuce – which I promptly discarded to the side.
Once you place a food order, the bartender quickly delivers a nice setup. (See below in images)
As for service, the bartenders know how to pour a proper pint of Guinness. And never allowed my pint to get empty asking me for another. The food came out in a reasonable amount of time, but they mixed up my “potato” side. I ordered the homemade lattice cut chips, and they delivered French fries. I brought this to the attention of the bartender. She apologized and ordered me a side of chips. They came out within minutes – a large portion!
The atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon was busy but not crowded. There was ample restaurant staff to accommodate the patrons. There is an array of flat screens around the bar, and everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves as were the wait staff and bartenders. A nice neighborhood bar atmosphere. They have been open about a month now, and it appears off to a great start. The manager made himself visible and works well with the staff. He quickly pointed to me as I placed my credit card on top of the bill. A nice touch to see such prompt service.
I love the farm-to-table concept – sourcing locally produced or raised products. I include links below. There is an enormous difference in the quality and taste of grass fed beef! And the smoked bacon - I wish I could have orderd some to go!
